Immediately after I arrived the Library had a deep budget cut. I wrote FAQs to explain the situation and they ended up on the front page of the local paper. The University’s main communications office also used them as guidelines for answering questions.
The Library opened a new building that had a complicated name because of donor requirements. I created a fact sheet to help reporters understand and get entertaining facts to cite in their stories.
Over the years I have worked with the UVA’s central communications staff to produce stories about different areas of the Library, and to prepare executive leadership for media interviews. A research library can be a surprisingly lively place–I’ve evicted people watching porn on Library computers, corralled demonstrators, and captured bats (to free outside).
